Old Oregon Hotel Renovation
Project Details
Project Story
MCE provided structural engineering design and construction services for the renovation and restoration of the Old Oregon Hotel. McMenamins wanted to create a bigger space, add an additional floor, and add an elevator without changing the ambiance of the building (and without any visible evidence of new structural systems). This meant that all seismic strengthening and structural system modifications had to be hidden within walls and other spaces. The new system had to be strong enough to bring the building into compliance with the new building codes and seismic zone requirements and be disguised within the buildings structural framing to maintain its historic character.
