Project Details
Project Story
- Seismic design and repair of historic URM structure
- Computer-generated model to illustrate seismic stress points within the rotunda and dome areas
- Base isolation design to allow murals to "float" in the wall during an earthquake
- Unique design to install reinforced concrete shearwalls behind existing historical finishes
A year after the Scotts Mills earthquake in 1993, MCE joined forces with Emerick Construction to perform a $4.3M seismic reinforcement of the State Capitol rotunda. This project was completed on time and under budget, resulting in a safe place for future generations to enjoy the original character and art of the Oregon State Capitol dome. MCE was awarded the Special Projects award for this project.
