Project Details
Project Story
MCE investigated the existing structure for lateral capacity and made recommendations to bring the building up to the State of Oregon Structural Specialty Code standards. The school is a single story building constructed in 1954, 1963, 1979, and 1989. The seismic upgrade included tying the different construction types together, reinforcing diaphragms, shear walls, and adding reinforcing to the unreinforced block walls. Another aspect of the project was to remove shear walls between some classrooms to allow for a double classroom. This was accomplished by strengthening the diaphragm and adding other shear walls.
