Project Story

MCE designed and facilitated the construction of the 53 foot pedestrian suspension bridge currently housed in the museum's exhibit area. All of the components were designed around premanufactured readily available materials. The design was for a 100 lbs live load and took into account seismic and handicap accessibility. The anchorage of the cables at each end involved unique solutions due to the existing conditions of the exhibit area (with a brick wall on one side and and a crane rail on the other.) Another major consideration for this project was cost. Designed for kids of all ages to see and feel the way a cable suspension bridge performs, the elements used were exposed to help demonstrate its method of operation.
