Lattice Communication Tower

Coos Bay, OR

Project Details

Project Story

The Southport tower is a 200-foot-tall self-supporting lattice tower used as part of a co-location facility. MCE’s role in this project was to perform structural tower analysis and modifications to the tower to support additional antenna equipment. Particular challenges to the site included loading in a high wind region and repair design parameters evaluated in a corrosive environment due to proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Parameters of the project also required that the repairs be completed while the tower remained in service.

  • Metal fatigue evaluation
  • Solutions for strengthening steel tower
  • Identification of faulty metal connectors
  • Repair recommendations to mitigate corrosive environment
