Award Overview
Story
The Blackburn Center campus was designed to support the healing mission of Central City Concern by bringing affordable housing, healthcare services, and a pharmacy together under one roof. Located along Burnside with direct MAX access, the development creates a safe, community-centered environment where residents can stabilize and rebuild their lives.
Close coordination between the structural team, architect, and contractor was essential to the project’s success. The structure combines post-tensioned concrete construction at the lower levels with wood framing above, while early Revit coordination helped resolve conflicts efficiently during design.
Sustainability and community integration were key project goals. Features such as low-flow fixtures, LED lighting, ENERGY STAR® appliances, roof-mounted solar panels, and thermally isolated cladding systems helped reduce environmental impact while supporting the project’s long-term performance and mission.
