DeMuro Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation

Firehouse 17 Restoration

Restore Oregon · 2019

Award Overview

Story

Firehouse 17 Restoration
Constructed in 1912, Firehouse 17 was originally designed by Lee Holden and was the recipient of the 2019 DeMuro Award for excellence in Preservation, Reuse and Revitalization.  It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located in a National Register District. The program for the project was to restore Firehouse 17 to its original condition to the greatest extent possible while making it into an efficient residence with all the modern amenities. This meant restoring the historic stair which remained in place but was covered with a contemporary modern stair, restoring the poles which had been removed and infilled. The contemporary bathrooms and kitchens were also replaced with more historically appropriate and authentic reproductions.
