The Leftbank Project embodies the art of building rejuvenation.  The Hazelwood building like many historic buildings has a long and rich history as a retail and culteral center.   This Portland area hidden treasure housed fashionable restaurants, bakeries, and jazz clubs as well as numerous other business estabilishments.

In its more recent history the Hazelwood building sufferred from damage as a result of a lack of building maintenance and was showing the its age.  Paramont to the revitalizing efforts of the Leftbank project was the structural considerations to allow the building to continue its current function.  Miller Consulting Engineers role in this project was to provide strengthening measures of the building to allow the walls to be removed and still meet the seismic requirements of the local building official as well as the design of the new structural elements including a steel catwalk, and mezzanine.

Our approach to the structural structural design of the building modifications provided the Leftbank project with the means to realize a new vision for the Hazelwood building and allows this facility to remain part of the lives of the Portland community.
