The Apcon building is a 42,000 square foot single story building constructed in the early 1970s.  In 2006 Apcon, a leading manufacturer of switches and network management equipment acquired the building and undertook a major renovation to  change the building into a modern manufacturing facility.

Miller Consulting Engineers, Inc. provided the structural analysis, structural design, and construction services to allow our client to undertake a substantial face lift to the building interior and exterior. 

Unique to this building was a substantial increase in openings to the exterior concrete masonry walls. To strengthen the building, and to meet the requirements of the project, structural steel frames were used to provide additional collapse prevention, and allow the facility to be strengthened to current code force levels. 

As part of this project Miller Consulting Engineers worked in cooperation with the architectural staff of OTAK and the general contractor R & H Construction.

The building was originally used as a light manufacturing facility. The building had undergone a substantial exterior face lift with modifications to the building facade and exterior walls. Unique to this building was a substantial increase in new windows penetrating existing concrete masonry walls. To meet the requirements of the new design, and to meet current code, structural frames were required to strengthen the existing walls.
